Lost Property and School Shop

Uniform Donations required for the School Shop

Second hand uniform needed!

As you are aware, we have second hand uniform for sale in the School Shop.  This has proved to be popular with the girls as a way of replacing lost and un-named items as well as stocking up with uniform.

However, we are low on stock of good quality second hand-uniform, so when you next have a sort out of your daughters’ uniform, please consider donating any out-grown or unwanted items to the shop. They will then be sold at a very reasonable price with the proceeds going to the School Development Fund.  We are particularly short of the following items:

  • Black skirts
  • Blue jumpers
  • Red jumpers
  • PE shorts (black)
  • Jogging bottoms (black)

However anything that still has some life in it will be much appreciated.  We take anything that the girls wear as school uniform, including all PE kit.  Please don’t be too concerned about things being ‘not good enough to sell’ as we will put them in the bag for recycling if they are not suitable for sale, which also raises funds for school.

Donations can be left in the School Shop, Room D102 on Fridays or at Student Support during the rest of the week.  Items will be welcome at any time of year, but particularly this summer term and in September at the start of the new school year.

It follows, naturally, that once we have replenished our stocks from your kind donations we will have plenty to sell so please come along to the School Shop in room D102 on Fridays from 11.10 am until 2.40 pm and grab a bargain.  Parents and pupils welcome!

Many thanks.

Caroline Birkbeck - School Shop and Lost Property Co-ordinator.

There are several benefits from selling second hand uniform including recycling and reuse, ease of purchase and replacement of items at bargain prices.  The proceeds from lost property and second hand uniform sales will go into to the School Development Fund to enhance the education of students, improve facilities and enable us to carry out projects that will contribute to the well being of the school community.

If your daughter has grown out of her uniform and it still has some life in it, we would be very grateful if you could donate it to the shop.  Please send it in to school with your daughter to hand in at Student Support.

Parents are welcome to visit the Shop between 11.45 am and 1.15 pm each Friday, though must first sign in at Reception

Lost Property Procedures

To encourage students to take care of their property there will be a charge of 50p to claim back each item of lost property.  If the items are named a message will be put in the Tutor Group folder to let the students know we have them.  This system works well in other schools and is an incentive for girls to take more care of their property!  Unclaimed property will be recycled at the end of each term. The School Shop is temporarily located in room D102, behind the Forum.  It will be open every Friday at break and lunchtime.  Students will be welcome to come along and look for their unlabelled items during the Shop opening hours.

Seven Ways to Name your Property’ by Caroline Birkbeck

In the Lost Property and School Shop we are collecting a large number of un-named items. For those parents (and daughters!) who find it difficult to track down suppliers of name tapes, stickers and marker pens, here is a list of suggestions that can help you ensure all your School uniform and other personal items are labelled. Then, if mislaid, they can be returned to you - for a small fee of 50p of course!

I have listed the email addresses and telephone numbers of companies that sell all of the items mentioned, so a ‘one stop shop’ will be easy. The added bonus is that the companies mentioned will give Wycombe High School 20% of any sales made if the school name is mentioned on ordering. So this is an even better reason to get ordering those labels now!

How to name your daughter's property:

  1. Laundry marker pen. The simplest and cheapest option. Available from WH Smith and other stationers. Use this permanent marker pen to write on the label or inside of the collar of clothing. Should not wash out.
  2. Helix Iron-on Tape Kit. This is a set of blank labels and a Laundry Marker Pen, so you write the name on then iron the tape on to the clothing. Around £2.50 from stationers including larger WH Smith.
  3. Embroidered sew-in name tapes. The traditional method of labelling, available from Sportcrest, the school uniform supplier in High Wycombe, who will order them for you then call you once they are ready for collection.
  4. Iron-on labels. Also available from Sportcrest.
  5. Stick on labels for clothing. These innovative new labels are the easiest way to put a clear label on clothing, without needing to sew or iron.
  6. Shoe labels. These labels stick on to the inside of the shoe and have a clear cover to prevent the printed name wearing off over time.
  7. Press and click tags. A brilliant idea of a printed vinyl tag which attaches to clothing, shoes, bags etc with a two part clip. Some companies do a straight tag, others do a round button tag, with the name printed on to it.

All of the above items are available from the following on-line companies, who make a 20% donation to our school for every purchase:

www.nametag-it.co.uk Telephone no: 01242 237195

www.nameitlabels.co.uk Telephone no: 01823 451281

So with all these suggestions, we are hoping to see less un-named uniform coming in to the shop and many more named items being returned to their owner. Help us to help you!

November 2010

The Lost Property and School Shop has been running for a few weeks now and we have successfully reunited a large amount of property with its owner.  Surprisingly there are still a lot of named items which haven’t been claimed, in spite of reminders being sent out through the Form Tutor folders.

We have had an ‘amnesty’ until the half term break; however from now on there will be a 50p charge to retrieve all named items.  If property is not named, it will be held for a month then put up for sale in the Second Hand Uniform Shop.  Unnamed and donated second hand uniform are available for sale, which in all cases is a cheaper way to replace uniform than buying new.  Prices of second hand uniform are listed below:
