Former Student Profile – Lydia Cordice Class of 2011
We are looking forward to welcoming Lydia back to school on Thursday 28 March for the Year 10 and Year 11 Inspire and Career Talk
What years did you attend WHS? 2004 until 2011
What did you get up to at WHS in terms of study and extracurricular activities?
For my A levels I studied Maths, Further Maths and Food Technology as these were the subjects I was good at AND enjoyed! I was Maths Captain in Year 13 and this mainly involved encouraging and arranging maths mentors and trying to get students more involved with Maths! I also did First Challenge to Morocco in Year 9 and then World Challenge to Bolivia in Year 13 which I absolutely loved!
Do you have any fond memories you’d like to share?
Too many to count, and probably too embarrassing! The world challenge expedition to Bolivia is still one of the highlights of my life so I’d have to say that!
What did you do after school?
I went straight to the University of Leeds. I had originally chosen to study Maths but halfway through writing my personal statement I had a brainwave and realised Food Science was an actual subject I could study! Once I found out about the type of career I could have I was sold.
What are you up to now?
I’m currently working as a Process Engineer in the Bournville Factory for Cadbury’s (or Mondelez International as it’s now called!). I work on the Wispa and Cadbury Dairy Milk production lines making sure they are as efficient and productive as possible!
Before this I worked for three years in the Global Research & Development at Cadbury’s where I worked on new process development and had the amazing opportunity to travel to Australia, India, South Africa, Canada, Nigeria and Turkey!
What do you know now that you didn’t in Year 13 that you’d like to share with current students?
I know now not to define myself based on decisions made in the past - I didn’t study a science subject at A Level but gained a First Class Science Degree! I didn’t study Engineering but I’m now a Process Engineer! If you put your mind to things and most importantly ENJOY them, you can do it!
