Guild Wine and Cheese Event

Guild All Years

On Thursday 2 May 2019, we had the pleasure of hosting local former and current students and staff for a Wine and Cheese evening.

The event was held to reinforce former student and staff connections with school, give them a chance to catch up with friends and to see how their school has developed over the years.

Some of the guests included former teacher of French Sue Motteram who left in 1984 and is now retired from teaching and three close friends from the class of 2012 Jade Gould, Emma Silver and Katie Wilkinson.  Jade works in Digital Media Marketing, Katie is a History teacher in a secondary school (thanks to Mr Rushton) in London and Emma works with a company to produce Psychological tests.

Other guests included Suzie Clarke (class of 1999), Vice President of the Guild and Account Manager at Tickethour UK, a Ticketmaster Company and Paula Lee (class of 1996) a passionate Liberal Democrat and former Councillor for Micklefield and Deputy Mayor of High Wycombe who hopes to be an MP one day.

Kathy Piercey (class of 1973) Treasurer of the Guild and semi-retired Educator with University of Reading PGCE Primary and Primary School Direct Programmes was also present and shared some memories from when she was in the Sixth Form. “When Sixth Form just opened we had a lady who came in at break time to make hot chocolate, coffee and tea for Sixth Formers.  That was her only job.  As a Sixth Former, I remember volunteering to get everything ready for the Guild Wine and Cheese and washing up afterwards.”

After enjoying the some refreshments tours were given of the school including the Music Centre, Learning Centre, all-weather pitch, Sports Hall (where Katie was very happy to see her name on the Netball Captain board), Performing Arts Block and a visit to Jade, Katie and Emma’s old form room in Miller.

The Guild is Wycombe High School’s student and staff association run by a small but lively committee that is in need of new members.  We meet three times a year to help organise reunions, social and business networking events, national and international WHS chapters, Inspire and Career Talks, sports fixtures (past v present students and produce the annual newsletter and magazine.

Next academic year we are aiming to have daytime meetings with the option of participating via Skype if you can’t make it in person.  Our next Guild Committee meeting is Wednesday 15 May at 7.00 pm in the Learning Centre.  We would be very grateful if you would get in touch with the Guild Administrator on 01494 523961 or if you think you might be interested in or know of a former classmate / colleague that would like to join us.
