High Class Biologists – 145 students scoop top awards

Year 10 WHS Biology students all recently competed in the UKBC (UK Biology Competitions) Biology Challenge and our year 12s took part in the Intermediate Biology Olympiad.

These competitions not only test topics from the school curriculum but reward those students whose knowledge of the subject has been increased by reading books and magazines, watching natural history programmes, taking notice of the news media for items of biological interest, and are generally aware of our natural flora and fauna.

Over 43,685 students from 621 schools worldwide took part in this year’s Biology Challenge competition.  In both competitions only the top 5% are awarded gold; 10% silver and 15% bronze. 133 WHS students gained a certificate in the Biology Challenge with ten of these receiving a gold award. We must especially congratulate the twelve year 12 students who gained gold, silver or bronze awards in the Intermediate Biology Olympiad.
