Wycombe High ended 2020 in style as the annual Panto was streamed to all classes to bring the curtain down on the year.
Written, produced and directed by the multi-talented Anna Yarwood, the show was this year performed live to socially-distanced groups of Year 13s. However, the surreal Cinderella was not to be limited to them only – as a final act a film-crew produced version went out to the school in Period 5 on the final Friday of 2020.
Including the dazzling acting talents of staff members Misters Bell, Bellars, Binks and Pike, along with double-barrelled duo Ms Jonsmyth-Clarke and Mr Garrett-Chapman, the unique take on Cinderella offered silliness, slapstick and satire, and was testament to the talents of Anna. “I’ve always loved pantomimes,” said the writer/director. “For me, they are the highlight of the Christmas period, and easily the best reason to go to the theatre. Having participated in Wycombe High pantos since Year 10, I was so excited to become Head of Panto in Year 13. It has been such an enjoyable experience, and I hope that shows on screen! It’s hard to pick a favourite moment; from Mr Bell’s wig, to Mr Binks’ ad-libs, to Hannah Foley’s forward-roll on stage, there are far too many to choose from!”

Star of the show Alice Wright – who played the vain and egotistical Prince Charming – said: “Panto 2020 was definitely the highlight of my year. There were so many amazing moments, but my personal favourite has to be when Mr Garrett-Chapman and Nikhita came on as Gemma Collins and Stacey! I would like to say a huge thank you to Anna for being the most amazing director and allowing me to perform alongside such a talented cast.”
“I truly enjoyed my experience performing in the Wycombe High panto and it was amazing to have been able to work alongside so many talented people,” added Esme Metcalfe who performed in the lead role of Cinderella. “I feel both happy and fortunate to have been a part of a show that entertained the whole school who I hope have enjoyed it as much as I did.”
